The accident which shook Al Wosta Governorate happened when a car with members of two families who were on their way back from Salalah had a head-on collision with a 4WD carrying two Omanis.

The families were identified as Mustafa, a native of Kuttipuram in Malappuram district of Kerala, who runs a shop Zahrat al Hail in Al Khadra, his wife Ruqiya, daughter Muhsina and brother Anver.
Along with them Khalid Moulavi, a native of Kannur in Kerala, who runs a coffee shop in Bidiya, his wife Shafnas, their children Anas, Hashim, and Fatma, who were travelling in the ill-fated car, were killed.
